New on Food Republic: Thai Shrimp Cakes with Watermelon Hot Sauce & Three Herb Salad

It’s Watermelon Week on Food Republic, and when they asked me to contribute a watermelon-centric recipe, I had a lot of ideas. The problem was that those ideas all seemed pretty obvious (ie: Watermelon Gazpacho! Look it up, apparently every major recipe outlet has a version…). So I dug deep into my brain, and thought about what I could do, and in retrospect the answer was so simple: Watermelon Hot Sauce. Why obvious? Because I love things that are sweet and spicy, and while fruity hot sauces can be overpowering, watermelon doesn’t have an extreme fruity flavor that would dominate the sauce.

But watermelon hot sauce needs something good to go on, and fish tacos seemed too obvious (never forget the watermelon gazpacho!). So I made some delicious shrimp cakes and a nice herbaceous salad to round things out. Read more about it and get the recipe here:

Shrimp Cakes With Watermelon Hot Sauce

Watermelon hot sauce is not just red because of the watermelon, but because it's trying to warn you how spicy it is.
